Frequently Asked Questions
A little more about our meals, what goes into them, and how to enjoy them.
What is Eden Box?
Eden Box makes everyday meals easier with flavorful, freeze-dried meals you can keep on hand for busy days. Choose your favorites in a customizable box, then prepare a pouch whenever you need a convenient meal at home, at work, or on the go.
What is freeze-drying, and how does it work?
Freeze-drying preserves food by removing most of its water. The food is frozen, then placed under a vacuum. With carefully controlled heat, the ice turns directly into water vapor—a process called sublimation. A final drying stage removes additional moisture.
This process helps retain much of the food’s original flavor, structure, and nutrients. Adding water before eating rehydrates the food.
Can freeze-dried meals have the flavor of home cooking?
Yes—freeze-drying can preserve much of a meal’s original flavor. Our goal at Eden Box is the familiar satisfaction of home-style food, with simple ingredients and the convenience of a meal you can keep in your pantry.
The recipe and ingredients matter, and so does preparing the meal as directed. Freeze-drying helps preserve those qualities, although texture and taste can differ from a freshly cooked version.
How fresh are Eden Box meals, really?
Our meals are preserved through freeze-drying, so they are shelf-stable rather than freshly cooked or sold chilled. The process helps retain the ingredients’ flavor and other qualities for you to enjoy later.
Think of it as preserving a meal’s qualities for another day. It does not stop every change: packaging, storage conditions, and time still affect quality.
Are these just for camping or emergency food storage?
Eden Box is designed around everyday eating: a convenient lunch, dinner on a busy evening, or a meal when plans change. Our focus is simple ingredients and satisfying recipes you’ll want to reach for in daily life.
You can also take the meals camping or keep them on hand for unexpected situations. Follow the preparation and storage directions for each pouch wherever you enjoy it.
Do you add preservatives?
We make our meals without added preservatives. Freeze-drying removes the moisture that microorganisms need to grow, while suitable packaging helps keep moisture out.
Freeze-drying itself does not sterilize food, so proper food preparation, handling, packaging, and storage remain essential.
Does freeze-drying preserve nutrients?
Freeze-drying can retain much of a food’s nutritional value. The amount retained depends on the ingredient, any cooking before drying, the drying process, and storage.
It does not preserve every nutrient perfectly or automatically make a meal healthier. A meal’s nutritional value also depends on its recipe and portion size.
How do I prepare my meal?
Add water and follow the directions for your specific pouch, including the water amount, temperature, and waiting time. Stir as directed and allow the meal to rehydrate before enjoying.
Preparation can vary by recipe, so the directions on your pouch are your best guide.
How many servings are in each pouch?
Each Eden Box meal pouch contains approximately two servings. How much you eat will depend on your appetite and whether you’re enjoying it on its own or with other food.
What comes in each box?
- Starter Box: 3 meal pouches, approximately 6 servings.
- Weekly Box: 6 meal pouches, approximately 12 servings.
- Family Box: 10 meal pouches, approximately 20 servings.
Choose the size that fits how you like to keep meals on hand.
Can I choose the meals in my box?
Yes! Each box is customizable. Select your box size, then choose from the available meals to fill it. You can mix different recipes or repeat your favorites, subject to availability.
Do the meals need refrigeration?
Unopened, properly sealed Eden Box meals are shelf-stable and do not need refrigeration. Keep them in a cool, dry place and follow the storage directions on the pouch.
Once you add water, the meal is perishable and should be handled like other prepared food. Refrigerate leftovers promptly; the dry meal’s storage conditions no longer apply.
